ABOUT THE INVENTOR
Roy Arthur Hansen
“I had just delivered a load of household items and was heading back to the yard when a thunderstorm hit, bringing intense rain and wind. While driving on a four-lane divided road, I was checking my mirrors when I suddenly noticed my trailer attempting to pass me on the right. Before I knew it, I was spinning, looking west, south, east, and north—twice. Yes, I was doing donuts on the highway. After the second spin, the truck came to a stop in the median. I quickly hopped out to check if there was a vehicle under my trailer. Thankfully, there wasn’t!
This incident made me think that there must be a way to prevent such situations from happening again.
I modified a spare 48-foot trailer by drilling a hole through the floor about 10 inches behind the kingpin and began experimenting with manually dropping in a retention pin to interact with the fifth wheel. The testing was a resounding success, marking the beginning of the NO JACK adventure.”
Mr. Hansen was awarded the utility patent for NO JACK and has since been actively petitioning highway safety agencies to adopt jackknife prevention systems as standard safety equipment.
